On February 8, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan State Budget Director Christopher Hawkins announced a proposal for $150 million for electric school buses in Michigan in their Executive Budget recommendation. We commend this historic proposed investment, which would bring more zero-tailpipe-emissions electric school buses to students throughout the state, and help deliver a clean ride to school free of harmful diesel exhaust pollution from school buses.
Now, it's up to the Legislature to ensure the final budget includes this vital investment in clean air for Michigan children. If passed, this investment would place Michigan among the leading states on school bus electrification, setting the state up to deliver the many health, climate and economic benefits of electric school buses to the people of Michigan.
