Student Voices: RePowering the Ride
Take a look at the conversations students in South Carolina are having with their community to “RePower the Ride.”
Created by the South Carolina Energy Justice Coalition (SCEJC) in partnership with Sowing Seeds into the Midlands in Columbia, South Carolina
The "RePowering the Ride! Youth Alliance for Electric School Buses" received a grant from Partnership for Southern Equity to educate communities in South Carolina about electric school buses.
This youth-led electric school bus project focused on the power of community education and engagement in driving sustainable change. By centering youth voices and leadership, they successfully raised awareness about the benefits of electric school buses—like cleaner air, lower emissions and reduced noise pollution.
A major highlight was their final community event, where both a state senator and a representative attended to support the use of electric school buses. Their presence underscored the growing political momentum behind clean transportation and validated the impact of youth-led advocacy.
Most importantly, this project proved that when young people lead, communities listen—and real climate solutions gain ground.
