STATEMENT: WRI’s Electric School Bus Initiative celebrates historic unionization vote by Blue Bird workers in Fort Valley, Georgia
The World Resources Institute's Electric School Bus Initiative heralds the historic vote last week by workers at Blue Bird in Fort Valley, Georgia to join the United Steelworkers Union. We know from research cited by WRI in its recent report: A Roadmap for Michigan’s Electric Vehicle Future, that higher levels of unionization will help improve job quality, lead to better wages, strengthen working conditions and support workers as the transportation sector electrifies. The vote is a resounding win for workers and a win for cleaner, more equitable American communities that will benefit from electric school buses.
